Swampy worlds

Emily Windsnap and the Monster from the Deep – I love fantasy so it is no surprise that I would read a series about a girl adjusting to her life as a mermaid and dealing with bullies, ha.

Princess Academy: The Forgotten Sisters – This concludes the series in the most awesome way. I love the sisters! and the swampy setting. Miri is my role model because she is a teacher, friend, and just a strong girl in so many ways.

Just Grace Goes Green – Grace tackles Earth Day! I love all the recycling ideas. I just might have to finish this series too.

In a Glass Grimmly -I believe I read the second book in the trilogy before The Grimm Conclusion. They are equally awesome and gory, and it is clear the Gidwitz believes in the power of children and loves telling stories.

Amazing girls & strong boys

The Princess in Black and the Mysterious Playdate – As usual this was a fun romp in the life of Princess Magnolia/Princess in Black. I just loooove Princess Sneezewort!!! I want her to have her own book.

River Secrets – This is kind of special to me because I read it in Vegas over Thanksgiving break after a break up 😥 So I had a hard time getting through the book. But I loved Razo in this story. I want a boyfriend like Razo! 😛 You will have to read the book to find out why.

Alvin Ho: Allergic to Birthday Parties, Science Projects, and Other Man-Made Catastrophes – I just might read this whole series because Alvin Ho sounds like many of the students I see in elementary schools.

The Amazing Days of Abby Hayes: Volume One – I wanted to read this because it’s one of the first books my sister Lillian showed me back in like 2000. It features a girl who collects calendars! It brings me back to my middle school days.

The Princess in Black Takes a Vacation – The story is about how the Princess can’t relax on her vacation because her monster alarm keeps ringing. I can relate to it because I dream and think about work/school all the time!!

A Long Walk to Water – I like Linda Sue Park’s writing and this story was good because it’s about a part of history that is not familiar to me. It’s set in Sudan and intertwines two characters, Salva in the 1990s and Nya in 2008. All the hardships that they endured just to get to the next day is astounding. 😦 I’d like to read more survival stories.

The Color of Water – This is the second book in a trilogy. It’s about a young girl, Ehwa, growing into a young woman. In this book, she develops a crush and learns more about her body. I relate to it and I wonder how a man would feel reading this story.

California Dreaming – I read this book because I listen to Cass Elliot! I thought it was so cool that there was a graphic novel about her life. However, it is very sad too 😦 The ending! She had a hard life and the relationships within The Mamas and the Papas sound so messy and painful. 😦 Which makes the happy music they produce kind of forlorn now.

Crafty princesses & brave souls

A Swiftly Tilting Planet – I loved this book! I think it might be my favorite one in the series. The time travel took us to many places and I think the theme here was “history repeats itself.” Mom O’Keefe’s story made me very sad 😥

Princess Academy: Palace of Stone – Miri was stuck in a hard place because she had to be loyal to her friend and princess Britta, but she also wanted to be fair and she understood the voice of the poor. I need to stay calm and be able to negotiate like Miri!

The Amazing Crafty Cat – A cute comic about a crafty girl. It fell a little short of expectations as the story felt under developed. However it made me want to read more of the author’s work.

The Princess in Black – So glad I finally read this! I read it to my nephew Oliver and he loved it too. Twinkle twinkle little smash! 😡

Silly, scary & tough

I loved this series of books because it opened my eyes to how fun early readers, graphic novels, and chapter books could be. What a fun bundle of books 😀

The Story of Diva and Flea – This is a graphic novel by Mo Willems and Tony DiTerlizzi. It was as charming as a story about a cat and a dog in Paris could be. ❤

The Princess in Black and the Perfect Princess Party – I really love this series because it’s a fun combo of princess and ninja stories. I also loved all the different princesses! (even though it is a little stereotypical). Princess Sneezewort is my favorite.

Ling & Ting: Twice as Silly – I’m so glad I gave early readers a try because the stories are so charming and distills storytelling into its most basic. Each episode in this series was so fun! and Grace Lin’s illustrations are wonderful as expected.

Alvin Ho: Allergic to Camping, Hiking, and Other Natural Disasters – It would be adorable and chaotic if my future son is anything like the kid in this story.

Lint Boy – Such a unique story! The pictures could be kind of scary but it was also very interesting. It reminds me of Coraline which I also am a big fan of.

MY FAVORITE COZY AUTHORS!!

My favorite authors are Kate DiCamillo, Shannon Hale, and Grace Lin. I have read like ALL of their books!!!!!! and I would love to read them again.

Where Are You Going, Baby Lincoln? – I loved this book because I feel like Baby Lincoln 🙂 When I am an old lady I might go on a train and get lost as well. The kids she meets in this book are so adorable.

Francine Poulet Meets the Ghost Raccoon – DiCamillo is a master because she can create the most realistic yet cartoonish characters. How does she come up with Francine Poulet? It is so much fun! This series is like a comic book in a chapter book.

Real Friends – I looooove this book ❤ Shannon Hale is my favorite author and probably person if I knew her in real life. I love the story and illustrations. Baby Shannon 😥 I just want to be popular even though I wear glasses and am nerdy.

Fortune Cookie Fortunes – I love Grace Lin’s picture books, early readers, chapter books, and novels. Everything she writes and draws. I loved this book because it encouraged me in a lot of ways to stay positive.

Bringing in the New Year – Grace Lin does a good job of showing Chinese traditions like Moon Festival and New Year. I think the best thing about it is that they’re all based on her family and her childhood.
